AutoBiography

Growing up in Miami Florida, I went to a small high school in South Miami called Palmer Trinity School. I am fortunate because I was one of those student who loved to be at school. I cherished my time at Palmer for many reasons, for example, it is where I learned what it was like to contribute and be a part of a community. From morning to night, I was busy with classes and extracurricular activities. I played two sports, football and lacrosse, and when I graduated in 2007, I received the Athlete of the Year award. I was an active member of the drama department both as an actor and stage designer for several different productions. And, most importantly, I was constantly involved in the art department. I took drawing, painting, and ceramics and always volunteered for projects like sign making, dances, and cartooning for the school newspaper. Whenever there was a project outside of our regular assigned course work, I was the first to volunteer because I love art and trying new things. I loved it so much that I decided to further my career in art and study it in college.
I was accepted into the University of Miami where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. My undergraduate was amazing because it was the first time in my life everything revolved around art. I took as many art classes as I could, drawing, painting, advanced illustration, 2D and 3D design, photography, set design, woodworking, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, multimedia, glassblowing, and others. I majored in studio art with a focus on glass blowing and I minored in art history. When I was not in the hot shop making glass I was studying the origins of art from the Ancient Greeks and Romans until now. I traveled to Italy and saw Michelangelo’s David, walked in the Pantheon, and threw a coin into the Trevi Fountain. I have been to Amsterdam and walked through the Rembrandt museum and ate lunch in Rembrandt square. I have been to museums all over the United States in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Miami, Portland, and Los Angles. I also studied drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago for a summer and completed a glassblowing summer session at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State.
During my time at the University of Miami, I had a part-time job as a lacrosse coach. I coached goalie and defense for two years and during the summer I was a lacrosse camp counselor. I always had a way with kids but coaching gave me such a great feeling knowing that I was helping these kids learn and improve. I loved coaching and working with kids so much that it gave me the idea to pursue a career in teaching. During my last year at the University of Miami, I started assisting my glass blowing professor while he gave demonstrations and he would allow me to teach one on one with the Intro to Glassblowing students when they were struggling in certain areas. After graduating with my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Miami, I decided to move to California and become a teacher.
